This review article summarizes the early and long-term results of interventional treatment of congenital heart disease (CHD) at the Children's Heart Centre. Between 1977 and 2024, a total of 7,027 interventional cardiac catheterizations and 17,182 cardiac surgeries, including 43 heart transplants, were performed in 19,120 individuals, of whom 17,323 (90.6%) had congenital heart disease and 1,797 (9.4%) had primary dysrhythmias and/or acquired heart disease. Early postoperative mortality has been around 1% over the last 20 years. Long-term prognosis was evaluated in 13,348 children with CHD born between 1978 and 2020, who underwent a total of 14,408...

Jana Kocourková, Jiří Koutek

Čes-slov Pediat 2025, 80(3):132-135 | DOI: 10.55095/CSPediatrie2025/015

The adolescent developmental period represents a stage of transition from childhood to adulthood. This process is influenced by biological changes and psychosocial influences resulting from the family , peer environment and broader sociocultural circumstances. Adolescents face developmental tasks towards achieving their own autonomy and finding their "place in the sun". Developmental complications can manifest themselves in particular in emotionally unstable experiences, narcissistic imbalance and instability of close relationships, and self-destructive behavior. The spectrum of problems can be described at one end of the spectrum as common adolescent...

Čes-slov Pediat 2025, 80(3):144-147 | DOI: 10.55095/CSPediatrie2025/011

Introduction of Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccines dramatically decreased incidence of infections caused by H. influenzae. Routine vaccination in the Czech republic was introduced in 2001, with few minor adjustments in 2007 and 2018. Due to natural selection, the majority of cases is now caused by non-b serotypes. However Haemophilus influenzae type b infections did not dissapear and there are unfortunatelly some cases also in fully vaccinated persons as shown in our case report.

Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) is a congenital condition characterized by micrognathia, glossoptosis, and, in some patients, cleft palate of varying extent. This leads to upper airway obstruction and feeding difficulties. PRS requires a comprehensive approach that combines multidisciplinary care with both surgical and non-invasive methods. In recent years, the Tübingen Palatal Plate (TPP) has emerged as one of the primary non-invasive treatment options. TPP stabilizes the tongue position, helping to eliminate airway obstruction. Additionally, by relieving and advancing the tongue, it stimulates mandibular growth and significantly improves feeding in newborns,...
