Čes-slov Pediat 2023, 78(2):65-73 | DOI: 10.55095/CSPediatrie2023/010
Manuscript reviews general information about use of hybrid imaging using positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in pediatric patients. The basic technical aspects, logistic and specific aspects in children are explained. There are summarized the most serious indications of PET/MRI in children when this kind of imaging might play the important role.

Introduction: CT angiocardiography (CTA) is a modern imaging method used for detailed imaging of cardiovascular structures in pediatric patients with congenital or acquired heart diseases. 3D virtual heart models reconstructed from CT data are currently the most detailed form of anatomical imaging in pediatric cardiology. Methods and objectives: Retrospective analysis of CTA examinations performed in patients treated at the Pediatric Cardiac Center, Bratislava, between 10 / 2021 - 09 / 2022. The goal of the study was to obtain a comprehensive overview of CTA examinations performed during a 1 year period. CTA indications as well as the contribution...

There are many factors that influence the quality of diagnostic imaging results. Human factors, such as patient cooperation and motivation play a large role, especially in paediatrics. EasyMRI, a project running at the Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the Motol University Hospital, aims to address these factors by improving patient education and engagement. For paediatric patient s, the introduction of a game element spanning the entire duration of the examination has met with particular success. The team's efforts have not only resulted in measurable improvement of final quality of the examination outcome. At the same time, patients...

Objective: In this article, the authors describe the most common indications of fetal MRI and the appropriate imaging technique. Methods: Fetal MRI image acquisition is explained for the most common indications. The technique is illustrated by various cases. Results: MRI has become an indispensable imaging tool for prenatal diagnosis, characterization, and postnatal management planning of fetal neurological or body anomalies. Conclusions: Fetal MRI is an essential diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of challenging and complex fetal anomalies.

Objective: To analyse prenatal diagnosis, management, and pregnancy outcomes in fetuses with an ovarian cyst and compare our results with foreign literature. Methods: Retrospective analysis including fetal ovarian cysts diagnosed in the years 2017-2021 in our centre. The size and appearance of the cyst in relation to pregnancy outcome and pre- and post-natal management were evaluated. Results: In the years 2017-2021, we have examined 5 420 pregnancies and 7 ovarian cysts were detected. Cysts were divided into smaller and larger than 4 cm and simple and complex. 3 cysts were ≥ 40 mm, 4 cysts < 4 cm, 2 cysts were complex, the remaining 5 were...

Severe Combined Immunodeficiencies (SCID) are a group of childhood diseases with a very serious prognosis. They occur with a frequency of 1 in 40- 100,000 children under one year of age. Early diagnosis is the main prognostic factor for the success of therapy. If left untreated, it is fatal. Causal treatment is haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Since January 2022, a pilot newborns screening project for SCID has been running in the Czech Republic. This article presents case reports of two patients with SCID diagnosed in our department in 2021. The first is an 8-month-old boy hospitalized for bilateral pneumonia with respiratory insufficiency....

Obesity is a serious chronic condition that requires a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach. The main components of obesity treatment are education towards healthy eating habits, increased physical activity, decreased sedentarism and regular sleep pattern. Excess body weight is often associated with psychopathological behavior. Children often present with sadness, depression, low self-esteem, and therefore the role of psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy is highly important in the complex approach to the treatment of childhood obesity. In recent years, the use of pharmacotherapy, both targeted for the treatment of certain genetic disorders...
