Refeeding syndromePathophysiology in pediatrics

In recent months, the number of newly diagnosed juveniles with a psychiatric diagnosis appears to be increasing. Similarly, individuals with a relapse of their mental illness, which includes eating disorders, are more likely to show up in paediatric departments. However, these patients are at risk of refeeding syndrome (RS). The article discusses pathophysiological mechanisms of RS, since their understanding is essential for properly conducted prevention and treatment.
